Making of Niiyaa

Making of Niiyaa

A drive through the bustling roads and  quaint alleyways leads me to my destination, the eclectic world of Niiyaa. As I look around, a softly lit window captures my attention. It beckons me to take a peek inside. The cozy ambience of the place mirrors the warm personalities of the co-founders, Aditi Tewari and Anurag Shrivastava. There's a quiet assurance in their taste that reflects in the designs. A lovely story goes behind the christening of the brand Niiyaa. Unravelling the many layers of human connection, humor and colours is the dominant element of the art that is created here. Artsy wraps are strewn around the place, each with a soul and character of its own, and replete with a quirky touch. Crafted to rock the fashion world, the pieces are a fabulous celebration of the intensely beautiful dimensions that lie in the imperfections of handlooms. The symphony of yarn and thread works together to soothe the senses. Elaborate craft techniques of weaving and embroidery have been incorporated in ways that have never been seen before. All the collections are a unique interpretation of the essence of the brand.

A scarf is a versatile piece of fabric that can be styled in so many interesting ways. It could be wrapped around the neck or shoulders, or even draped over the head. Scarves are used for warmth, to shield against the sun, wind, or pollution, and to make a fashion statement. In many cultures, a scarf is also used for religious occasions. It was first noticed as a fashion accessory long ago in ancient Egypt when the fascinating Queen Nefertiti wore it under her jeweled headpiece. She also tied it around to enhance the beauty of her swan-like neck. When worn artistically, it can instantly elevate your look. A beautiful addition to your wardrobe, a scarf can be square, rectangular, or triangular. They come in a large variety of fabrics and stylishly whimsical options. Molten Crayons

Molten Crayons

It is that time of the year when the dreamy afternoons are drenched in a languorous charm. The tiny raindrops rest on the pleats of the verdant foliage to form a delicate necklace of translucent pearls, sprinkled with hints of silver(fairy dust). Brings back memories of a quaint little village located in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, where these lovely Batik pieces were created. The raw beauty of the place during the monsoons is a feast for the senses. Almost like a vividly evocative watercolor painting. Batik is an age-old technique of wax resist dyeing on textiles. Fragments of exquisite antique tapestries provide ample historical testimony about the glory of this ancient art form. The delicate patterns are etched using a copper canting tool, which holds the molten wax. The fabric is then dyed in a fashion that the colour only permeates the parts where wax hasn't been applied. Once it dries, the wax is removed to reveal magical results. The process is meticulously repeated several times to achieve stunningly intricate patterns.
