The elegantly crafted kashmiri shawls were a treasured adornment of the mughal royalty, who particularly favoured the flower motifs in their textiles and architecture.
In the late 18th century these enigmatic pieces reached the shores of France where they were popularised by empress Josephine as symbols of exotic luxury. This warm floral embroidered shawl is a melange of stylised botehs and guldaans, filled and surrounded by foliage and delicate spring blossoms and french roses. The borders feature a repeat mehrab and flowerhead motif.
